Usurper (lat. usurpare = to seize for use, to use) is a erogatory term used to describe either an illegitimate or controversial claimant to the throne in a monarchy; or a person (perhaps a warlord) who succeeds in establishing an autocracy without securing "the consent of the governed."; or a plurality of persons forming an oligarchy without having their powers delegated authoritatively.
