The Vancouver Canucks are a professional ice hockey team base in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They play at the 18,630 capacity General Motors Place. They are members of the Northwest Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Canucks joined the league in 1970 as an expansion team along with the Buffalo Sabres. In its 38-year NHL history, the team has advanced twice to the Stanley Cup Finals but were defeated both times by New York teams: the Islanders in 1982, and the Rangers in 1994.
