whipple procedure

A pancreaticouodenectomy, pancreatoduodenectomy, Whipple procedure, or Kausch-Whipple procedure, is a major surgical operation involving the pancreas, duodenum, and other organs. This operation is performed to treat cancerous tumours on the head of the pancreas or cancerous tumors on ducts or vessels near the pancreas. The procedure is now being performed using the Da Vinci surgical robotic system, making it much less invasive and risky because only three small incisions, or access points, are needed. This is still, nevertheless, a major surgical procedure.
