ybor

Ybor City (pronounce /ˈiːbɔr/) (EE-borh) is a historic neighborhood in Tampa, Florida, located just northeast of downtown; it is also known as Tampa's Latin Quarter. Development began in 1885 by a group of cigar manufacturers led by Vicente Martinez-Ybor, and was originally populated by immigrants, mainly from Cuba, Spain, and Italy. The community is notable for its mutual aid societies and active labor organizations; these were virtually unique in the American South of the time.
